18 Essentials Facts Of Australia
Let’s learn the 18 essentials facts of Australia, a continent that has its own unique climate with exotic animals and flora.
1. Australia is a continental country located in the southern part of the continent of Asia. Australia is known as the smallest continent in the world. This land is also known for its kangaroos and koalas as its trademark animals.
2. The Australian continent has more than 378 species of mammals, 828 species of birds, 300 species of lizards, 140 species of snakes and 2 species of crocodiles. Some of them are famous as icons, such as kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and Tasmanian devils.
3. Reporting from the Daily News, in 2016 there were around 44 million kangaroos in Australia or double the total population in this country.
4. Australia is known to have the most deadly and dangerous animal species. From the great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), which causes one death per year to the inland taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus), a species of venomous snake that can kill several humans with just one bite and the blue-ringed octopus (Hapalochlaena fasciata) which is known to have a dangerous venom.
5. Original fruits from Australia are peach (peach), apricot (apricot), nectarine and plum. In texture and type, these four fruits are almost the same as apples because they have thin skins.
6. Around 90% of the population in Australia occupies large cities in coastal areas such as Sydney, Perth and Melbourne. The uneven distribution of population in Australia is due to the fact that most of the territory is an arid inland with extreme temperatures.
7. Australian Aborigines or “Aboriginal”, is a political term for people whose ancestors were the indigenous inhabitants of the Australian continent before British colonial rule.
8. Currently, it is estimated that the population of Aborigines is only 144,000 people. This includes the Aboriginal tribes which number only 50,000, the remainder being mixed with other races.
9. According to World Atlas, the low population density is due to the area being shaped like the Great Australian Desert, making it difficult for residents to adapt in the midst of insufficient rainfall.
10. Australia’s population is growing rapidly among other developed countries. This is due to the large number of immigrants who come to Australia. The most immigrants seeking Asylum in Australia are from China, India, the UK and New Zealand
11. About 92% of Australia’s population are white or of the Caucasoid race, the rest are Asian (7%), Aboriginal and others (1%). Whites are generally from Europe, mostly from England and Ireland, the rest from Italy, the Netherlands, and Scotland, Germany, and Greece.
12. Due to climatic and topographical factors, the distribution of population in Australia is uneven. This is due to geographical factors, where the western region of Australia is dominated by a desert climate and is difficult to live in. In general, most of Australia’s population resides in areas on the east and south coasts.
13. Australia’s population density is centered in the east because the eastern part of Australia is very fertile, the temperature is cool and has a lot of rainfall and the location on the coast makes it easy to transport goods. This is different from the dry and arid areas in the middle of Australia.
14. Most of Australia’s territory is desert and semi-desert because the Australian continent is in a subsidence zone, a zone where air masses fall in areas located at 30° South Latitude or 30° South Latitude. The entire territory of the Australian continent is located in the southern part of the Earth.
15. The absence of water vapor in the Australian area, causes the area to be dry. Australia’s position is what makes Australia the main location for the occurrence of deserts.
16. Currently, relations between the two countries are going well. In February 2020, the two heads of state, both Indonesia and Australia, both celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations. Cooperation between the two countries is also mutually reinforcing in various fields, including the economic sector.
17. Australia is one of the countries that voluntarily participate in sovereignty which was founded or was colonized by the United Kingdom (or often referred to as England)
18. Currently, the list of British Commonwealth countries includes: Europe: Great Britain and Cyprus. America: Canada. Pacific: Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Fiji, Nauru, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.
