Another most popular tourism destination in Indonesia after Bali is the wonderful and lovely Yogyakarta. It is a province region in the island of Java, Indonesia. The capitol of the province is called Yogyakarta city. There are many ways to pronounce Yogyakarta : “Yogya”, “Jogjakarta” or just “Jogja.”

There are many tourist sights in the city alone. Nearby sites offer much interesting experience for your travel. It is a friendly place for backpackers and considered as one of the most affordable lodging services in the world.

Yogyakarta is a cultural capital of Java. Many places offer gamelan music (traditional Javanese music show), traditional dance and wayang (puppet shows).

As well as a popular tourist site, Jogja also offers some delicious food for travelers. The most well-known culinary from Jogja is Gudeg. A food made of unripe jackfuit, mix with traditional Javanese seasoning from hundred years old recipe.

You can have brown eggs (pindang eggs) and krecek (dried cow skin) as complimentary for the meal. This meal is very popular not just in Yogyakarta but in all Indonesian regions too. You can try Gudeg Permata or Gudeg Yu Narni Tugu for the jackfuirt curries.

Other exotic culinary choices to taste such as mie godok (boiled noodles), jada tempe and fried grasshopper. And don’t forget to buy bakpia, traditional Jogja cookies filled with chocolate, cheese or beans.

Some other popular neighborhoods in Yogyakarta are Kota Gede and Sosrowijayan. Kota Gede is famous for their silver handicraft. Many kind of decorations and art objects from silver can be found in this part of the city. There’s a fascinating 16th century remains of the royal palace and traditional houses around. While Sosrowijayan is know for the batik works and ethnic accessories.

To get to the wonderful and lovely Yogyakarta, you can reach it by air to Adisucipto International Airpot (JOG) with many regional and international connections. For train there are every day train schedules from Jakarta or Surabaya to Jogja’s Tugu station. Average journey is around eight hours or less.
