The Ultimate Design Of Golden Gate Bridge

The ultimate design of Golden Gate Bridge is a masterpiece work of engineering combined with beautiful design and artistic shape.

The Golden Gate Bridge opened officially on May 27, 1937 with its tall towers and international orange paint. It was the longest bridge span in the world at the time. A day before the opening about 200.000 people had walked, crossing over the bridge.

The bridge connects the San Francisco city to Marin County across the strait in the San Francisco Peninsula area, along US Route 101. Before that the only way to cross the strait was by ferry service beginning in 1820.This bridge is the most photographed bridge in the world.

According to history.com website, James Wilkins, a former engineering student, proposed for a suspension bridge with a center span of 3.000 feet that cost $100 million. Following the idea, Michael M. O’Shaughnessy, the city engineer of San Francisco, started to look for engineers whether they could do it for less.

An engineer from Chicago, Joseph Strauss said he could in 1917 and with O’Shaughnessy they designed a suspension bridge with a main span at least 4.000 feet for $25-30 million. It was also O’Shaughnessy who used the name Gold Gate Bridge for the project when it was initially discussed. The engineer works also goes to Charles Alton Ellis though his work did not get recognition until 2012.

Then came the Great Depression in 1929 that forced the project to limit the financial options but fortunately in 1932, Bank Of America bought the entire project to help the local economy growth.

On January 5, 1933, the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge begins. It was the tallest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its opening with span of 4.200 feet (1.280 m) and 746 feet (227 m) height.

Beside the bridge there is also a park near to it. The park is home to several unique gardens including the Shakespeare Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Tea Garden, Queen Wilhelmina Garden, and Conservatory Valley.

In the pop culture universe the Golden Gate Bridge is a famous landmark in films such as Maltese Falcon (1941), James Bond A View To A Kill (1985), Superman (1978), Fantastic Four (2005), Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011) and Godzilla (2014).
