Journey To The Jurassic Period

Journey to the Jurassic period when dinosaurs dominated the Earth for million years and reached their peak of glory.

The Jurassic is a geologic period that spanned from the end of the Triassic Period 201.3 million years ago to the beginning of the Cretaceous Period, approximately 145 million years ago.

There are three times periods when Dinosaurs lived : Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. During each of these three periods, different dinosaur species lived. There were no humans existed in those dinosaurs era. The Jurassic period is named after the Jura Mountains, where limestone strata from the period were first identified.

By the beginning of the Jurassic, the supercontinent Pangaea had begun to split apart, rifting into two landmasses: Laurasia to the north and Gondwana to the south.

The Laurasia or the northern part, was splitting into landmasses that would eventually form North America and Eurasia, and it opening basins for the central Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico.

At the time the Earth had heavy plants near coasts, lakes, and rivers, but desert in its interior. The world was warm, moist, and full of green plants. Most of the continents had separated during the Cretaceous Period,

Journey To The Jurassic Period

Scientists calculated that the first birds appeared during the Jurassic period. It evolved from a branch of theropod dinosaurs. In fact, birds are commonly thought to be the only animals we find today that have direct relation to dinosaurs. All other non-avian dinosaurs became extinct at least 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous Period.

According to Wikipedia the end of the Jurassic period has no clear boundary with the Cretaceous era and it is the only boundary between geological periods to remain undefined formally. The Cretaceous, which occurred around 145 million to 66 million years ago, was one of the warmest periods in the history of Earth.

The Jurassic Period was a golden time for dinosaurs, which flourished for 180 million years. Huge sauropod herbivores (such as Diplodocus with its 27-meter long) and carnivores (such as Allosaurs which had 11-meter long) emerged.

And the most famous dinosaurs from the dino era is, of course the Tyrannosaurs Rex or T Rex. The “king of the tyrant lizards” will always be one of the scariest and deadliest dinosaurs around. With a bite force three times that of a great white shark it is the strongest bite force of any land animal that has ever lived.
