The 7 Facts Of Sony PlayStation Game Console

The 7 Facts Of Sony PlayStation game console that rarely known by public so far.

Since first releasing the Playstation in 1995, Sony has emerged as one of the most innovative and dominant companies in the gaming industry.

Even though it had failed because it lost prestige to the Nintendo 64, Sony was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief after their next console, the Playstation 2, managed to set a record as the best-selling console of all time.

So far, no gaming company has spent the last 20 years more successful than the Playstation console.

1. Number of console sales record

Console sales of up to 100 million units so far can only be done by five consoles.

Nintendo holds three of these with the Nintendo DS (154.02 million units), the Game Boy (118.69 million units), and the Wii (101.63 million units). While the other two are held by Sony, with the original PlayStation 102.49 million units and the PlayStation 2 with 155 million units, making it the best-selling console of all time.

2. It was originally a Nintendo and Sony project

In the 1980s, Nintendo had become one of the leading gaming console companies in the world, especially in Japan.

The presence of Compact Disc technology with a Read-only Optical Memory (CD-ROM) feature made Nintendo appoint Sony to develop a console based on this technology, which at that time was still new.

Unfortunately, after some time, Nintendo and Sony did not continue their cooperation after Nintendo made another deal with Phillips without their knowledge. Finally Sony developed the PlayStation itself as it is now.

3. PlayStation’s Best Selling Console

Until now, PlayStation has spawned five generations of consoles starting from PS One, PS2, PS3, PS4, and most recently, PS5.

But do you know which of the first four PlayStation generations is the most loved? The answer is the PlayStation 2 or PS2 which sold more than 155 million units worldwide.

4. The meaning of the symbols on the Playstation controller

Unlike other competitors, Sony does not use letters or numbers on their Playstation controllers and prefers to use symbols. This decision was made by designer Teiyu Goto, who felt that symbols would be easier to remember than letters or numbers.

It turns out that each symbol on the Playstation controller is not random but has its own meaning. Circle and Cross have the meaning ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ which are symbols from the Japanese language, then Triangle represents perspective or direction, while Square represents menus, maps and also documents.

5. The original Playstation mascot was so unattractive

Sony does not have an official mascot representing the Playstation console. They once made a mascot nicknamed Polygon Man and introduced it at E3 in 1995.

Because it was considered very bad by some parties, as a result Polygon Man was turned off by Sony. Even though it’s gone, this mascot was shown as one of the bosses on Playstation Battle Royale.

6. PS3 loses Sony billions of Dollars

At the beginning of the release of the PS3 in 2006, the PS3 was quite expensive because of the technology embedded by Sony, namely Blu-ray. As a result, this has drawn a lot of criticism from game observers, and made PS3 sales not too good because of the soaring price.

The reason the PlayStation 3 is so expensive is the fact that Sony spent a lot of money on the cell microprocessor as well as the Blu-Ray technology.

Finally, in the slim PS3 Sony decided to remove some features to reduce the selling price of the PS3 itself. However, due to a mistake at the beginning, the PS3 has cost Sony billions of dollars.

7. PS5 is Sony’s most expensive console so far

PS5 certainly comes with the latest technologies embedded by Sony. With these cutting-edge features, the price set by Sony is clearly the most expensive at this time.

The PlayStation 5 is the 5th generation in Sony’s line of consoles and the 9th generation in the history of game console development. Sony promises a significant upgrade from the previous generation to quench the thirst of gamers.
