a bit story of taman mini indonesia indah
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah showcases the magnificent diversity of Indonesian culture and art from its approximately 18.000 islands.
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) is a cultural theme park located in East Jakarta. With its area around 250 acres or 100 hectares, the park is literally translated to Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park. Taman Mini is a miniature version of Indonesia itself. The concept of this culture-based-recreational area was inspired by Indonesia’s richness of art and culture diversity.
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah was founded in 1975 by Siti Hartinah or better known as Tien Soeharto. She was the first lady of Indonesia’s second president, Soeharto. The first construction began in 1971 and was officially inaugurated on April 20, 1975. With this recreational park, she hoped to build stronger national pride in more Indonesian people.
The project was started by Harapan Kita Foundation in 1972. The foundation kept operated the park until April 2021. It is now operated by the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of State Secretarial.
Inside the complex you can find replicas of Indonesia’s provinces presented in their own pavilions. The pavilions are filled with culture and art from each province. There are 34 pavilions built across Taman Mini with designs and architecture that match the same of the original buildings from their own provinces.
Along with pavilions there are numerous museums, recreational spots and religious buildings. With beautiful buildings and comfortable gardens Taman Mini is a heaven for photographers and shooting location.
There is the Archipelago lake at the center of the site where it duplicates exactly of Indonesian islands and the surroundings. You can rent a boat to sail around the miniature islands in the lake.
If you want a bird view of this big recreational park hop in to the gondola or Kereta Gantung. This gondola will take you around Taman Mini from above in about 15 minutes or so.
Don’t forget to visit the IMAX cinema where you can watch movies in ultra wide format. The cinema building is designed with a snail-like shape and painted in golden yellowish color. The nickname is Keong Mas Theater or Golden Snail Theater.

With its strategic location in Jakarta Timur (East Jakarta) region, reaching Taman Mini is easy and simple. Many public transportation serve the routes to the site.
But if you have plan to circling around Taman Mini you better get your personal vehicles along such as cars or motorbikes as the park is too big to walk by foot. There are also shuttle buses in the area where you can hop on or hop off of it, but the schedule and their route is limited.
If you are looking for accommodations near Taman Mini there are Santika Hotel and Fiducia Hotel to choose. Not far from the site there is also a big plaza called Tamini Square with many restaurants and shops inside.
