All You Need To Know About Rugby

Rugby is a type of team football game played by two teams. Each team tries to score by kicking, throwing, or carrying the ball so that they can kick to release the opponent’s goal or touch behind the opponent’s line. The team that scores the most points becomes the winner.
Rugby Ball game or Rugby Football is a sport that is played in almost the same way as American Football, but with lower level of safety because there are only fewer safety accessories.
The game is a bit difficult to distinguish with American Football because it uses the same oval-shaped ball. In essence, American Football is a modification of Rugby. However, they are very different, starting from the rules, equipment and different ways of playing.
Rugby is a sport that included in the big ball sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, futsal, sepak takraw and many more. Meanwhile, small ball sports include badminton, tennis, table tennis, baseball, baseball, softball, rounders, golf, and many more.
It all started in 1823 in England, at that time William Webb Ellis was playing football. He had accidentally picked up and carried the ball away. Word spread about his move against the rules. Then immediately the rules were changed to allow players to run with the ball. So a new game was born.
After that the University of Cambridge made some rules for this game. Through this university rugby has been developed so that it attracts the interest of many people.
The game then spread to college in England. In 1872, the first college-level rugby match took place between the campuses of Oxford and Cambridge. Its popularity spread throughout Great Britain and Europe to America. Every four years, the best teams in the world compete for the Rugby World Cup.
The rugby team has 15 players. Players will try to get the ball and try to cross the opponent’s goal line which is called the “try-line”. If they manage to get the ball over the opponent’s goal line and touch the ball on the ground, the team scores 5 points. After the successful team tried, they were also given a “conversion”. A player nicknamed the “fly half” is the one that good at kicking and will kick the ball to cross the goal bar.
The duration of the game is 90 minutes, divided into time lost, extra time and special conditions. Once the game is divided into two, the length of which is not more than 40 minutes. After half time of play, the teams change places. There is a time interval of no more than 10 minutes.
Rugby Equipment
- Ball
The rugby ball used should be oval in shape, have dimensions between 28 and 30 centimeters long and after being filled with pressure should make a circumference of about 75 inches. Rugby balls are usually made of leather or synthetic materials that have been approved by the rules that have been set by the rules of rugby.
- Apparel
Rugby players wear a special shirt which is often called a “shoulder pad” that protects sensitive areas of the body. Players also use clets to be able to run with a good grip or grip on the field.
The use of a funnel made of a material such as silicone is very important in order to protect the teeth. A scrum cap can also be used, which is a kind of padded helmet that protects the head but not mandatory.
- Rugby Field
The field is 100 meters long and 70 meters wide. As in American football, on the rugby field there is also a line to mark the goal zone called the try line. There is also the end zone, 10 yards (9 meters) behind the goal line.
The goalposts consist of 2 vertical posts with a crossbar connecting the two and the length is 22 meters.
The goal zone ends at the goal post, if the player exceeds it, then the ball is considered out.
There are several reasons why there is no rugby in Indonesia : First, people do not really understand the game. Second, the sport looks monotonous and doesn’t have much skill and last, rugby requires a great strong physical body. A big and tall body is an advantage which is uncommon for Indonesians.
