La Fiesta Brava : A Story Of Matador
The bullfighting show, a long tradition from Spain along with its controversial side.
Matador, which literally means killer, is a torero who is highly skilled in bullfighting. The Torero is a major performer in bullfighting shows in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.
Matador Country is the nickname pinned to Spain from the world community. This nickname comes from the tradition of the bullfighter in Spain which is famous in various parts of the world. Matador itself is a show of human fight against the bull.
In Spain, the bullfighter is also known as la fiesta brava alias the brave festival or corrida de toros alias running of the bulls.
In this fight, a torero plays a role in toying with and in the end kills the bull. Torero is called toreador in English, but this term is almost never used in Spain or Latin America.
The rules in bullfighting required that the matador first lure the animal with a red cloth before thrusting a sharp sword into the animal to make it angry. Finally, the bullfighter killed the bull with a spear to its neck to honor its bravery.
When carrying out the action, the torero will flick a red cloth in front of the bull to lure it. Then, the bull will run towards the torero so he has to avoid being rammed by the bull.
Spanish bullfighters have used muleta or red-colored sticks since the early 18th century. The bull’s association with the color red has stuck in people’s minds. But in reality bulls will charge at a waving muleta regardless of color.
The red color of the muleta helps cover the sight of the bull’s blood. Bulls have a partial blind disease which causes bulls to not be able to see color or color blind. Because the bullfighter has always been used to using red cloth as a tool for fighting bulls.
Reported by Live Science, actually bulls and other cows are not aware of the color red. Because they are color blind, they don’t know colors including red.
When bullfights are fought with a matador, the bulls are probably not bothered by the red color but by the movement of the matador’s cape used for whipping.
In 1726, the bullfighter show without using a horse was performed for the first time. The Torero who fought against the bull in the show was Francisco Romero.
One of the most famous bullfighters of all time was Juan Belmonte, whose techniques revolutionized the fight and went on to become the standard in bullfighter scoring today.
With the dangerous nature of the fight, more than 40 matadors have been killed on the battlefield. One of the most famous fighters in history, Manolete, was killed in a fight in 1947.
Although it has been a Spanish tradition for a long time, the bullfighter actually sparked various controversies. Not only dangerous for the performers, this show is also considered cruel to bulls. Because in tradition, the bull will be killed at the end of the show.
Citing the Humane Society International website, bullfighters are also banned by law in many countries, including Argentina, Canada, Denmark, Italy and the UK.
