The History Of Domino Game
The history of domino game originate from China hundreds of years ago and began to spread to Europe and other parts of the world.
Dominoes are played using small rectangular tiles used as domino cards, which are dots divided into two upper and lower halves bounded by a line in the center of the card. This is to distinguish the value of the cards on one side, while the back side is usually left blank.
Dominoes cards are generally small size with the top view divided into 2 sides (top/bottom) with a circle that serves as a number or point for the card. The number of dominoes is 28 cards with the lowest card being “blank/blank” to the largest card “six/six”.
Dominoes originated in China which started during the festival in Wulin, formerly known as Hangzhou city. Dominoes are often used as a gambling medium as well as dice, sold by peddlers of unique items in the regime of King Xiao Zong of the Song Dynasty (1162-1494).
However, there are at least two versions of domino origins. The first story describes that the game was made by a royal servant named Keung Tai Kung with the intention to be presented to the emperor at that time, the emperor Hui Tsung. The second version reveals that dominoes began to be played by the Hung Ming army around 181-234 AD.
The oldest known domino manual is The Manual of the Xuanhe Period written by Qu You (1341–1437) but some Chinese historians believe that this manual is not the oldest.
The word domino does not come from China, though. Perhaps, when it was first presented to the Chinese emperor, the game was still under another name. The word domino comes from the Latin ‘dominus’ which means host or ruler (domination). In Scottish and English there is also a word that refers to it, namely ‘dominate’ which means principal.
From China this game began to spread to Europe. Another historian named Michael Dummett wrote in the book Game of Tarot, revealing that in Europe, dominoes began to be widely played in Naples and Venice in the early 18th century.
In Indonesia, domino is called gaple and it is a kind of generic card game It is usually in the form of a small card measuring 3×5 cm, with a yellow base color with small dots that function as a substitute for numbers.
Balak Six is the name of a playing card with the appearance of a combination of a pair of black dots of six seeds, which is the highest value card in the game. This game is played by at least two people and can accommodate up to four players.
