The Sturdy Story Of Land Rover

The sturdy story of Land Rover with various vehicles comprise solely upmarket and luxury sport utility cars.

Land Rover is a brand of a British car company, Jaguar Land Rover which produces a wide range of car products.Founded in 1948. Jaguar Land Rover is headquartered in Whitley, Coventry, owned by Indian automotive company Tata Motors since 2008.

The existence of this product has a myriad of stories that cannot be separated from the history of war in England. Land Rover started through a pair of brothers, namely Maurice and Spencer Wilks who sketched a simple vehicle design with a “box” design to become the forerunner of a 4WD Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

The design was made shortly after World War II ended. At that time, the demand for sedans made by Rover was less attractive. The market prefers a multipurpose vehicle like a Jeep. Land Rover is the second oldest 4-wheel vehicle brand in the world after Jeep.

Post-war British society does not need a luxury sedan with advanced technology. They need just a versatile car that is “affordable”, but sturdy for use in a variety of terrains. Incidentally, the Wilks brothers, who are senior executives at the Rover company, are aware of this phenomenon.

The name Land Rover was originally used by the Rover Company as the name of one of their models, Land Rover, which Rover launched in 1948. In the following years the name developed into a separate brand for 4-wheel drive vehicles, such as the Defender, Discovery, Freelander, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque.

The Sturdy Story Of Land Rover

In 1948, Land Rover’s first car, called the Series 1, was officially announced to the public, through an automotive exhibition titled the Amsterdam Motor Show.

The car comes with a P3 engine with a capacity of 1,600 cc with a power of 50 hp, and is combined with a 4-speed manual transmission. The presence of Series 1 responded positively by the market. This model is quite in demand and has many fans.

In 1950, the company did a makeover. In order to increase customer satisfaction, the engine in the Land Rover car was increased to 2,000 cc.
In 1957, Land Rover developed a diesel engine with a capacity of 2,000 cc. This diesel engine became the first fastest and successfully assembled engine by the company. The engine can spit out 52 hp at 4,000 rpm.

The first generation Land Rover series 1 has the characteristics of the location of the headlights behind the grille. The second generation 1 Series has headlights that are integrated into the grille.

There is almost no difference at all between a Range Rover and a Land Rover. The main similarity between the two is that Land Rover is the parent brand and Range Rover is just a subsidiary, which Land Rover manufactures under the brand name “Range Rover”.

The Range Rover is a 4-wheel-drive luxury SUV. This model was first launched in 1970 and to date has had four generations. Range Rover was also developed by Land Rover as their luxury car brand.

Over time, in 1984 the manufacturer developed a 2,495 cc diesel. Then in 1985, the capacity of the gasoline engine was also increased, from 2,286 cc to 2,495 cc. While the launch of the 2,495 cc turbo diesel engine was carried out in 1986.

On 31 January 1994, Rover Group including Land Rover, was acquired by BMW. In 2000, Rover Group was broken up by BMW and Land Rover was sold on to Ford Motor Company and becoming part of its Premier Automotive Group.
In June 2008, Ford sold the Land Rover and Jaguar Cars brands to Tata Motors. This sale also includes the temporarily inactive Rover brand.

Land Rover currently has factories in Halewood and Solihull, with research and development facilities in Gaydon and Whitley. Land Rover sold 194,000 vehicles in 2009.

Until now, there have been various models created by the company. Land Rover still maintains its legendary boxy model.
