The story of Toshiba company is a long hard work and countless innovations for decades. Toshiba Corporation is a Japanese multinational company with various products of electronics and home appliances including as well as IT services. The electronics products including elevators and escalators, electronic components, semiconductors, television, hard disk drives (HDD), printers, batteries and many more.

It was one of the biggest manufacturers of personal computers, consumer electronics and medical equipment worldwide.

The long history of Toshiba started when Tanaka Hisashige, an inventor and engineer, formed Tanaka Seisakusho on July 11, 1875. It was the first Japanese company to manufacture telegraph equipment and other miscellaneous electrical and communications equipment.

In 1881 the company had a big contract with the Imperial Japanese Navy to produce torpedoes and mines. But when the Navy started to change the system the orders decreased substantially and they started to lose profit. The company was taken over by Mitsui Bank in 1893 after it was declared insolvent and renamed it to Shibaura Seisakusho.

Another company name Hakunetsusha was founded in 1890, producing electric lamps. It was later renamed to Tokyo Denki in 1899 when the company started to produce various consumer products.

After the merger of Shibaura Seisaku-sho (founded in 1875) and Tokyo Denki (founded in 1890) a new company was formed and called Tokyo Shibaura Denki K.K. (Tokyo Shibaura Electric Co., Ltd) (founded in 1939). It was nicknamed Toshiba but the company name was only officially changed to Toshiba Corporation in 1978.
