A comprehensive history of Ferrari company, producers of supercars from Italy that shapes the culture of how we drive a fast car.

OVERVIEW
Ferrari was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929, as “Scuderia Ferrari”, a company that sponsored racers and built racing cars before moving into the production of commercial vehicles known as Ferrari in 1947.

The company also developed independent car production in 1946, and later became Ferrari S.p.A., now controlled by the Fiat group. The company is headquartered in Maranello, near Modena, Italy.

Known for their luxurious supercars, the vehicles are able to reach high speed due to their high power engines technology.

Supercar cars are cars at the level of a sports car, but have above average capabilities. The power generated by the engine is usually in the range of 500 hp to 800 hp. The majority are mid-engined (mid-engine), but some are using the front engine. Type of rear-wheel drive or four, and certainly not front-wheel drive.

HISTORY
Throughout its history, the company has participated the longest in world racing, especially in Formula One, where it has had great success. One of the famous racers is the seven-time world champion from Germany, Michael Schumacher.

Enzo himself, who was also a racer at that time, used cars produced by Costruzioni Maccaniche Nazionali (CMN) and Alfa Romeo as his racing tools.

The idea for the founding of the Ferrari team came on the evening of 16 November 1929 in the city of Bologna, when Enzo was having dinner with the Caniato brothers (Augusto Caniato and Alfredo Caniato), and racing driver Mario Tadini.

BORN TO RACE
In 1932, the Ferrari team tried their luck in the big races by participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with two Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Spiders and the results were quite fantastic with a 1-2 win.

In 1939 Enzo left Alfa while later he founded his racing company called Auto Avio Costruzioni Ferrari, Ferrari also worked alone to enlarge his racing team, where Enzo then designed the Tipo 815 (V8 1500cc) with Alberto Massimino, which later this car was known as the Car The first Ferraris.

In 1947 the Ferrari 125 S comes out of the gates of its historic factory on Via Abetone Inferiore in Maranello. This car had a 1500 cc engine with two cylinders. This car was driven by Franco Cortese in his maiden race at the Piacenza Circuit on 11 May 1947.
In endurance racing, Ferrari won its first Mille Miglia in 1948 and its first 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1949.

In Formula 1, the Italian company took their first Formula 1 World Championship grand prix in 1951 and by 1952 had already won the World title with Alberto Ascari.
In 1960, Ferrari became a limited liability company and in 1969 reached an agreement with Fiat to sell it 50% of its shares.

In 1980, Enzo Ferrari died. Under these circumstances, Fiat increased its stake to 90% with the remaining 10% remaining in the hands of Enzo’s son, Piero Ferrari.

In the new millennium, Ferrari returned to its successful era. In Formula 1, Scuderia won 13 world titles between 2000 and 2008. This period from a commercial point of view is also included as the year of the launch of successful cars such as the Enzo Ferrari in 2002 and the F430 in 2004.

CAR TYPES
The history of Ferrari cars cannot be separated from the F40. This was the last car whose design was approved by Enzo Ferrari. Produced between 1987 and 1992, it used the concept of a street racing car and became one of the most iconic vehicles ever produced by Ferrari.

After the Ferrari F40, this Italian car brand makes many iconic vehicles, such as the F50, Enzo Ferrari, Superamerica, California, F458 Italia, La Ferrari, 488 GTB, to the FXX K EVO. It’s just that, everything is a sedan-style super car with two doors.

In 2022, the history of Ferrari cars gets its break with the presence of the first SUV named Purosangue. Interestingly, the Ferrari SUV has a 4-door configuration. This of course makes the Purosangue Ferrari’s first car to use a 4-door. The name Purosangue itself comes from the Italian language which means pure blood.

THE FAMOUS EMBLEM
Ferrari itself has an iconic emblem in the form of a prancing horse above a shield. Then the background is yellow. According to Ferrari on its official website, the image of the shield symbolizes the courage, luxury and prestige of the Ferrari brand.

Meanwhile, the yellow color represents the city of origin of Ferrari, namely Modena, which has a yellow flag. The prancing horse is a symbol of the strength, speed and ability of a Ferrari car. The prancing horse also symbolizes the spirit to move forward and achieve success.
