Pioneer Corporation or commonly referred to as Pioneer, is a multinational company from Tokyo, Japan, which focuses on making digital entertainment products. From Pioneer official website, the company was founded by Nozomu Matsumoto in 1938 in Tokyo as a radio and speaker repair shop. The current president of this company is Shiro Yahara.
Pioneer is a world leader in the sale of electronic products for the car, home and business markets. Pioneer is famous for its role in introducing innovations in consumer electronic goods such as Laser Discs (1979), car CD players (1984), GPS car navigation (1990), DVD-Video players (1996), HD plasma displays (1997) and organic electroluminescent (OEL) displays (1997). To date, Pioneer is still developing and producing innovative and high-tech entertainment and electronic products.
According to Wikipedia, in 2007 Sharp Corporation bought a 14% stake in the company but it has now decreased to 9% and yet Sharp remains the largest shareholder, followed by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. which holds about 4% of the company’s shares since 2010. The company employed 37,622 employees in 2007.
On June 25, 2009, with Sharp Corporation, the company formed a joint venture named Pioneer Digital Design and Manufacturing Corporation.
The company’s slogan is ‘Sound.Vision.Soul.’. “Sound” not only denotes Pioneer’s quality in audio, it also refers to the company’s goal to resonate with customers. “Vision” refers to the video business in which Pioneer maintains a leadership position with its Blu-ray Disc technology and next generation plasma displays. It also demonstrates the company’s clear commitment to the future and innovation. “Soul” emphasizes Pioneer’s determination to elevate entertainment to a level of pure emotion.
Pioneer truly believes in the power of sound and vision to move the heart and touch the soul. The company’s mission is to awaken the senses and sensibility as we can feel through the magic of sound and sight.
Pioneer Corporation’s Regional Headquarters was established to cover the audio and video industry with a wide range of products including DVD and related products, home stereo equipment, speakers, car audio visual and disc jockey equipment.
In Southeast Asia Pioneer established the Singapore-based company Pioneer Electronics Asiacentre Pte Ltd in 1992 which manages product planning, sales and production. Since then, Pioneer has continued to expand its sales and production in the Southeast Asia region, for example by establishing subsidiary offices in Thailand, Malaysia and India.
In the Disc Jockey industry, Pioneer has released many electronic turntables that have been around for many years.
It was way back in 1992 when the CDJ300 was first released to the market. Initially, many DJs rejected it because they thought they could not match the Turntable’s “feel” with Vinyl or LPs as a media player.
But today the CDJ Pioneer can be said as the “industry standard” because we can find it everywhere : in Small Venues, Cafes and Festivals that are watched by hundreds of thousands of viewers such as Ultra, Tomorrowland, etc.
