History Of Skateboarding : From Water To Sidewalk Surfing
History Of Skateboarding : From Water To Sidewalk Surfing – Let’s take a closer look to how this sport gained a worldwide popularity.
A skateboard is a board that has four wheels and is used for skating activities. This board has power that is driven by pushing using one foot while the other foot is on the board. It is also possible for the user to stand on it while the board slides down a steep slope and in this way uses gravity as a boost.
Skateboarding is the act of climbing and performing movements using a skateboard. People who ride skateboards are referred to as skateboarders, skateboarders or skaters.
The sport has became increasingly popular with young people. Skateboarding can also be categorized as a recreational activity, a form of art, a profession and also a means of transportation.
As a sport culture skateboarding was first born in California, United States. In the past, skateboarding was initially an alternative game to water surfing or surfing.
The history began in the 1950s by California surfers where they spent a lot of time at sea. These surfers wanted a way to be able to surf on land. That’s when they started putting the wheels on the bottom of the wooden planks. At the time, surfers called their new way of getting around as “sidewalk surfing”.
Currently there are two types of skater activity in general : street skateboarding (on free streets) and court skateboarding (in special arenas).
And anyone who talks about skateboarding certainly can’t let go of the most phenomenal figure in the history of skateboarding, Tony Hawk. The world’s best skateboarder started his pro career at the age of 14. During his 17-year career, he won 70 competitions.
Interestingly, skateboarding is a sport that belongs to aerobics. The average skateboarder’s heart rate will increase to 140-160 beats per minute. In fact, it could be even higher depending on the intensity of the exercise performed.
According to international fitness and health expert Samir Becic, skateboarding will train a child’s eye, leg, arm and hand coordination, which will help him become more proficient in various sports and activities. An hour of skateboarding will burn around 150-500 calories.
In contrast to other forms of sports, there is no international official body that determines the shape of a standard skateboard, so there are various forms of boards in the market.
Skateboarding grew even more in Asia. In 1999 the Indonesian Skateboarding Association (ISA) was founded, it is the parent organization of Indonesian Skateboards.
ISA is registered as part of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of the All-Indonesian Roller Skate Association (Perserosi) branch.
