Star Wars : the saga facts, all the information you need to know about one of the greatest movies in all time.
- Star Wars was created in 1971 when George Lucas could not obtain the rights of Flash Gordon serial. He decided to write his own space story and wrote a two-page synopsis, then 20th Century Fox had interest so they decided to go on with the project.
- Star Wars was originally titled Adventures of Luke Starkiller. During production George Lucas changed Luke’s last name to Skywalker and the titled was altered to Star Wars.
- Yoda was almost played by a little monkey. But it turned out that it was much more trouble to use the animal for the character.
- The original name for Yoda was “Minch Yoda” in the first draft of screenplay by Leigh Brackett, then it was shortened to just “Yoda”.
- Luke is approximately 53 years old when he returns in Star Wars : The Force Awakens and then dies in The Last Jedi.
- In the original trilogy, the visual effects work were done using actual physical creation of models, puppets and sets. The Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) was barely existed in 1977.
- George Lucas and his team set the new standard for visual effect industry for the years to come in movie production.
- Darth Vader dies at the age of 45 in Return of the Jedi, one year later after The Empire Strike Back begins.
- Star Wars Episode IV : A New Hope was only called Star Wars when it was originally released on May 25, 1977. The re-release on April 10, 1981 added the Episode IV marking in the title and the subtitle : “A New Hope”.
- The hope refers to Luke Skywalker, as the hero of the galaxy’s new hope to fight the evil dark lord reign.
- By the year 1997, all three original trilogy films had their episode numbers added to their titles – Episode V and Episode VI.
- The original Return of the Jedi ending saw Luke Skywalker turned evil.
- It was named as “Star Wars” in 1977 original release because Lucas had no idea whether it would be followed by a sequel or not.
- James Earl Jones was the voice of Darth Vader and David Prowse played the character in the costume in the original trilogy. Englishman actor Sebastian Shaw played the unmasking Darth Vader scene.
- Obi-Wan Kenobi is 25 years old in Star Wars Episode I : The Phantom Menace, a Padawan apprentice of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.
- The founders of the Jedi Order were the Jedi Masters Cala Brin, Garon Jard, Rajivari and Ters Sendon.
