One of the most important tool in modern human civilization is scissors. Scissors are handheld shearing tools that are useful for cutting many kind of things. It is called scissors from the Latin word cisorium meaning “a cutting blade” and is also the root “chisel”. It have two cutting blades, so it’s a pair, a pair of cutting blades. The basic work for scissor means cut and scissors always come with a pair of cutting blades.

Many people believed that scissors were invented first by Leonardo Da Vinci. But the early form of scissors is indeed older and already exist hundred years before.

Generally it is accepted that the first valid pair of scissors dates back to Egypt around 1500 BC. It may not used to cut hair as knives were more popular and probably used to finish the job back then. In Chinese mainland, scissors have appeared at least in the Western Han Dynasty era according to the unearthed objects.

Ancient Romans are believed to made use of scissors like we know today. They designed what we’d recognize as almost like modern scissors. They were crafted for haircuts with neat and clean result in mind. It was enhanced from ancient Mesopotamian scissors and these tools have been found from the Roman period.

Romans preferred short hair as it was the a part of the elegant Roman culture. A ‘natural’ style was associated with barbarians. Hence, that’s why Roman men kept their hair cut short.

Pivoted scissors are considered to have been used by the ancient Romans as early as the year 100 AD. Some historians also believe that this tool was invented in the Middle East about 3.000 to 4.000 years ago.
